ABOUT OUR INAGURAL ISSUE
In Spring 2025, the CWRU Undergraduate Law Journal proudly published its inaugural issue. As our first edition, it reflects months of work and perseverance in building something entirely from the ground up.

Launching a new academic journal came with its share of challenges. From coordinating submissions to establishing editorial standards and managing outreach, the process was far from easy. Yet despite the obstacles, our team produced a collection of writing that represents a wide range of academic backgrounds and perspectives. We brought together students from across disciplines, from political science and philosophy to public health and engineering, all contributing research-driven pieces on legal and societal issues.

A highlight of the issue is the article titled “Addressing the Need for Healthcare-Specific AI Governance in Ohio,” written by the journal’s founders Sabrina Soto and Paisley Tuel. Their work has gone on to serve as a reference for ongoing policy discussions in both Ohio and Pennsylvania, and has been used by legislative staff to inform the development of AI governance frameworks in the healthcare sector.

As a result of this impact, members of our journal were invited to Columbus, Ohio, where they met with state representatives to discuss their findings and policy recommendations. These conversations mark a meaningful step in connecting undergraduate research to real-world policymaking.

Our first issue has shown what’s possible when students are given the platform to engage seriously with law and policy, and it sets the tone for the journal’s continued growth in the years ahead.
